Change
Allowing children to observe how things change over time is very educational. Observation skills are honed when students have to chart and reflect on developments and alterations over time. This is an example of an interactive bulletin board I used with a group of developmentally delayed students to chart changes. We used the little booklets as our observation books. Some students could only draw their findings, others could write; a few took pictures and had a scribe but ALL could note the changes. On the clothespins above the books we would put items in baggies to observe or photos we had taken that showed change. We watched plants grow, saw how green peppers rotted in ziploc bags forgotten in their lunches, and did many other 'changes' according to what interested them. It was a wonderful use of wall space and our time. I think it would be a great activity for fast finishers in a regular classroom as well.
