Not the best picture but you get the idea. When we met we realized we both shared a desire to simplify, to try to build something by reusing materials and making a unique space and place. We realized each of us wanted similar things! It was settled early in our relationship... A seacan or an Atco trailer as the base... Then completely repurposed and renewed using as many recycled and reusable items as possible. An old seacan for the 'Honey Room' and an Atco logging camp kitchen to be gutted and transformed as our home base! I will attempt to chronicle this journey here.
We started by getting some old railway ties to place the Atco trailer on when it arrives.
The next step was to widen the driveway so that the tractor trailer delivering the trailer could get in the driveway. Stefan was like a kid in a candy shop driving the bobcat... Yippee!
Then the big day arrived! The trailer delivery day! We used uship.com to arrive at a price for the delivery of the trailer which was located in a logging camp on a logging road in Brazeau county. Cadco won the bid and were amazing!
Everything went so well! The extra gravel was definitely a must to allow the truck to get onto the land. He placed the trailer on the ties and was gone. Holy crap! We were actually doing this! Quickly our attention turned to beginning the removal of many items from inside. As this trailer was a working camp kitchen, complete with a deep fryer.... You can imagine that the layer of grease was pretty evident despite the amazing venting system... And we began....
First thing these tables had to go
That's where the bedroom will be one day
Bye bye tables! Already feels more opened up!
Demolition man!
These appliances absolutely had to go! There was a dead mouse in the freezer!
Breaking stuff is fun!
Once we get everything removed the first thing to do is move plumbing, add some pipes to allow for propane lights and a propane fridge... No power... Will add solar panels this summer. Then the big job is to clean Big Bertha! This is a commercial unit... We could seriously cook for hundreds! Thank goodness Stefan as a chef has cleaned and brought back to life many a stove... He assures me it'll be beautiful! Will keep you posted!
BIG BERTHA-BEFORE
